Sorry

So you sit here thinking you know everything and then realise you don't. I was reading Boris recently and noticed that 'word verification' had been turned off. I hate those bloody things with a passion and had no idea whether this blog might have one. So I checked and blow me down it did.
I'm so, so sorry. They're such a pain in the arse and frankly a great disincentive to making a comment. I can't tell you the number of times that I've given up in disgust in other places because I couldn't read the damn things.
Anyway, being curious I searched and I've found where the settings are hidden and turned it off.
Thank you Craig for pointing me in the right direction. This then makes me wonder if there's anything else irritating about it? Apart from me that is.

  1. Actually no. I like your blog. Especially now you've sorted the commenting.

  2. Anything else...Oh God, this is going to such a long list Alex :)
Thanks for turning off the verification. I have such a hard time with the letters and numbers and often had to refresh them 3 or 4 times to get one I could read!
It's a bit naughty of Google to default to it.

  3. Some people just have comment moderation, which is equally annoying, as I like to see what I said straight away in case it was something really daft and out of line. Some even have word verification and comment moderation, which seems a little over the top.

I tried turning my wv off for a while but was soon inundated with interesting comments from people selling completely unrelated products and services (!). So I turned it back on again. I know this puts some people off but it's better than them having to read a load of advertising rubbish - in some blogs the comments are the best bit! (Not yours, I hasten to add!)

  4. Cheers guys. If I had only known.

Funnily enough Jean the second I turned it off I got some spam through on old posts but frankly I don't really care as long as it isn't excessive. We'll see.

  5. Thanks to bringing this to my attention. As a sometime reader or your blog, I found it when I was planning a trip to France, it was interesting to learn that you could actutally turn off the verification. So I managed to find out how to do it and turned it off on my blog also.

    1. Since changing I've had 5 spam comments to this post that show in my email inbox but not here. Not sure why but maybe something to do with who I allow to post.
