Entrecote

It's practically our last day gallivanting about and having ticked off the majority of things on our to-do list then we have to pop over to Montpellier for the best ever steak and chips at Entrecote. We were lead to believe that there is an Entrecote in Manchester but it developed a bad reputation when a vegetarian turned up and left feeling very hungry. That might be a joke, I'm  not  sure (OK I am) but it has ceased to exist. There maybe one in London so I'll check it out when we're next there.

  1. The words "best ever steak" and "France" don't usually go together! Lucky you having such a place relatively close to where you used to live. I only went to Montpellier once but I rather liked what I saw.

    1. I agree. As a general rule the beef isn't hung long enough. But this beef is cut into small slices and as long as it's not over cooked it's very tender? There's a similar place in London called Rowleys on Jermyn Street but the sauce isn't the same.

  2. hello Alex - Debbie and I are off to Nimes atbThe end of the month; we should have coordinated that a little better. Anyway, hope you had a great time.
If you miss Entrecote have you tried this place: http://www.relaisdevenise.com

I have been to the one near Liverpool Street and it was very good. I see there is also one in Marylebone. Anyhow - worth a visit next time you are in London. My other London tip is to see the revival of the musical Gypsy at the Savoy Theatre. Imelda Staunton is simply magnificent - the best individual, performance I have ever seen on stage.

    1. Kevin, great to hear from you. I hope you have a great trip. We didn't get time to go into Nimes because we had my mother with us and, despite what she thinks, she can't walk very far. I'm not sure if you have been there or if it's still any good but try the Ciel de Nimes on top of the library opposite the Maison Carre. The food used to be good and the views are excellent.
I'll check out the relais you mention when we're next down but frankly we don't visit London very much nowadays. A trip south usually only involves Eastbourne and Brighton to see our kids.
      Love to Debbie.

    2. Do let us know if you are down in London though mate... Or maybe make a Reading stop on your way to or from the south coast. Super little wine shop and charcuterie place in Reading these days.
